Sir, – Siobhán Ní Chuanaigh's entertaining letter (April 16th) reminded me of reading some time ago about a lady who, as a child, used to visit an elderly aunt.
This aunt ran a very orderly house – a place for everything and everything in its place.
On the dresser in her kitchen were a number of labelled jars; one said “Things off the floor”, another was for “Pieces of string”.
Beside the latter was another which read, “Pieces of string too small to keep.” – Yours, etc,
