Setting a good example in Leinster House

Sir, – A letter-writer (January 15th) advocates a ban on the availability of alcohol in the Houses of the Oireachtas to highlight the dangers of drinking and driving.

Could I further propose that the Dáil restaurant serve only porridge, vegetables, fruit and tap water in order to promote healthy eating? I also propose that the central heating in Leinster House be turned down to a level just sufficient to prevent TDs being able to see their own breath in the air to promote the virtues of conservation of energy. – Yours, etc,
