Human trafficking – the Norwegian view

Sir, – Like all human rights lawyers, Siobhán Mullally advocates a more liberal approach to young people seeking refuge in Europe ("Europe must face up to human trafficking issue", Opinion & Analysis, January 12th).

However, Norway’s immigration minister, Sylvi Listhaug, has pointed out that for the cost of helping 3,000 young migrants she can help 100,000 children in other parts of the world.

Furthermore, many of these young migrants, because of integration and educational issues, are often only suitable for jobs that will not exist in Europe in the future.

Sylvi Listhaug has also referred to the elephant in the room. Africa alone will gain almost 500 million more people by 2030.
