‘Having a conversation’ about carers

Sir, – How I agree with E Dillon (July 12th), particularly in regard to the nonsensical cliché “having a conversation”.

Some time ago The Irish Times interviewed a number of people who care for sick and disabled relatives at home with virtually no support. A reader – no doubt well-meaning – wrote to suggest that we have a "national conversation" about the many ways in which we neglect family carers and take their contribution and well-being for granted.

I don't know whether the "conversation" ever happened. It is my understanding, however, that little or nothing has improved for the carers. Does The Irish Times have any plans to reinterview them? – Yours, etc,
