Sir, – Would this week be a good time for the Government to ask a High Court judge to examine alternative ways to reduce our greenhouse emissions?

A chara, – I refer to your report (News, August 2nd) that Ireland’s environmental record is among the worst in Europe. This is indeed shameful. Regrettably, agriculture, which is so important to our economy, is the worst offender in greenhouse gas emissions.

Time for action!

Might I suggest that, at least, we restore a separate and dedicated Department of the Environment, as we had previously, and take the problem seriously. – Is mise,
