When it comes to drawing skills, mine are definitely below par. So a few lessons wouldn’t go amiss, and Sketchar, an app available on IOS and Android, fits the bill.

The app offers personalised step-by-step tutorials on how to draw a range of subjects, from still life to everyday objects to portraits of famous people. You start out as a total beginner, but by the end – in theory – you should be able to tackle more than stick figures on a page.

Each tutorial takes you through the process step by step, giving you tips on basic guides and how to construct the image you want from a few lines and circles. There is also the augmented reality option, which uses the phone’s camera to “project” the image you are trying to replicate on to your blank page, allowing you to follow the drawing process in real life with a tech helping hand, with a time-lapse video to record your efforts as you go.

The free tier of membership gives you limited access to some basic lessons, but subscribing to Pro will open up even more tutorials. Yearly membership costs €70.
