Sir, – As the father of a six-year-old daughter with special needs, I empathise with Noel Peard's frustrated efforts as a wheelchair user to access a disabled parking space at his local supermarket (January 9th).
While drivers can be fined €80 by the Garda for wrongly parking in disabled spots in public car parks, they can do what they like in private car parks such as supermarkets, where the same rules do not apply.
The answer is simple – apply the same rules and fines to privately owned car parks as to public ones. – Yours, etc,
KEN CAMPBELL,
