Sir, – May I remind Una Mullally that Dublin city has been evolving since the Vikings sailed up the river Liffey in the 9th century. If, like me, she had been a young woman in the 1960s and 70s she would have experienced many seismic changes as a citizen of Dublin.
Developments in the city she seems to be obsessed about are just part of natural evolution and modernisation. A city that stands still becomes ossified.
The last sentence of Una's article of November 1st, stating her fear that if things keep changing in Dublin "how long will it be ...until something kicks off", is surely an ominous statement. Wanting to maintain the status quo marks her out as an anti-modernist reactionary.
