Sir, – I am amazed that Stephen Collins can describe the Zappone affair as a "relatively minor" issue (Opinion and Analysis, September 17th).
Surely the fact that this episode involved the creation of a public service job as a political favour, its very existence hidden from the Taoiseach for months, a breach of Cabinet confidentiality, and the possible violation of freedom of information legislation, must place it in an altogether different category.
If we cannot trust Government Ministers to act responsibly in this instance, how can we be certain that they will deal honourably with matters of much more national importance. – Yours, etc,
MARTIN McDONALD,
