The royal treatment

Sir, – I do admit to being a “royal” fan and so had no problems recognising Prince Charles and Camilla on their recent visit to the streets of Cork.

I was, however, a bit confused initially, trying to place the myriad male and female uniformed professionals on every road and street corner, but recollected seeing them in times past and realised they were called “gardaí”.

It was a comforting sight.

It would be lovely if our Government and the powers that be treated Irish citizens like royalty and gave us back a police presence every day of the year. – Yours, etc,
