Sir, – Frank McNally (An Irishman's Diary, December 17th) wrote of his Aunt Mary's belief that a musical accompaniment when milking cows increased the milk yield. My Uncle Mike used to sing to his cows at milking time. His, and apparently the cows', favourite song was "The Snowy-Breasted Pearl". While he sang it, they were no longer restive and the milk buckets were soon filled to the brim. – Yours, etc,
VERA HUGHES,
Moate, Co Westmeath.
