Sir, – The leading article about monitoring and controlling of intensive lobbying (October 4th), especially in relation to the Public Health (Alcohol) Bill, will be welcomed by all concerned about the blizzard of advertising and sale of alcoholic "beverages" throughout Ireland. The nonsense we hear from the industry advising us to "drink alcohol sensibly" would be laughable were it not so insulting.
Perhaps it is time to install a time ball in the environs of Kildare Street (similar to the one on the old Ballast Office) that would drop with a high-decibel clang whenever a lobbyist appears in the vicinity. – Yours, etc,
