Sir, – Pat McDonagh is in the process of recruiting workers from overseas, due to the shortage of Irish applicants "as the PUP caused people to get a bit lazy" ("Supermac's boss claims PUP has caused 'people to get a bit lazy'", November 30th). "There are multiple reasons why Irish people would not be interested in working in Supermac's,", he says noting the difficulties in recruiting for the catering industry.
Perhaps these include terms and conditions which maintain people on the margins? His reference to Irish people getting “a bit lazy” is unacceptable from someone whose businesses depend on the custom of the very people he calls lazy.
– Yours, etc,
HUGH McDERMOTT,
