Is the cyberattack an excuse?

Sir, – I contracted and recovered from Covid-19 in December 2020; this was confirmed by a positive PCR test and I duly received a series of follow-up texts from the Health Service Executive asking me to self-isolate.

Last February, when an EU travel pass was first discussed, I contacted the HSE asking them if they could confirm that I had recovered from Covid-19. I was told that the HSE did not have this data and I should contact my GP. How can the Government now blame the cyberattack on its inability to comply with the EU Digital Covid Certificate for travel? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – As of Thursday the EU Digital Covid Certificate is now live in all EU countries except Ireland and the blame for this is placed on the recent hacking of the HSE computer systems.

Having checked on the EU Commission website there is a list of all EU countries listing their readiness to run the new regime. Ireland is listed like all the other nations as follows: Technical Testing Phase to Connect: Done; Technically Ready to Connect: Done; Effectively Connected: Yes.

So what’s the problem? Where is my certificate? How do I get it? I’m afraid the answer to my last question has no answer from the Government’s own website, and one wonders if it is stalling once again. July 19th? – Yours, etc,
