Sir, – Tánaiste Leo Varadkar’s comments regarding “people in uniform with good public sector jobs” needs to be challenged (“Home working may hollow out cities”, March 19th).
Not all public sector workers in uniform are well paid. Members of the Defence Forces for one, many of whom are in receipt of family income support payments, to top up there earnings.
For any public or civil servant to be in receipt of such payments speaks volumes about the value the Government puts on their job.
No public or civil servant should be in receipt of family income support payments; they should be adequately rewarded for their work by the State.
