Sir, – Kathy Sheridan (Opinion, November 24th) displays a snobbery in relation to Garth Brooks masked as social commentary. If you hate country and western music just say so.
If you hate Brooks for whatever other reason, just say so. Please do not hide a cultural snobbery about either country music or the musician as “the best cure is to let it go”.
Imagine, if the now sadly deceased Leonard Cohen was to arrive in Dublin to announce a concert. The reaction amongst devoted disciples would be one of celebration, treated almost as a second coming of a messiah and no ironic media sneers. One cannot legislate for musical taste. So let it be.

Sirs, – So the worst-kept secret in town has been revealed. Garth is doing five shows. Cumann Lúthchleas Gael revealed, by email to the residents, something we already knew. No surprise there then.
So far, there are now six planned concerts in 2022.This shows a total disregard for the neighbours around Croke Park and twice the number of original concerts promised.
Where will it end?
– Yours, etc,
NIALL Mc LAUGHLIN,
