Garda Síochána and Jobstown

Sir, – Your report that "The Garda Commissioner should examine evidence given by members of the force at the Jobstown trial, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said" ("Varadkar seeks Garda review of Jobstown", July 7th).

A chara, – It is a principle of natural justice that no person can judge a case in which they have an interest.

Whether or not there should be an inquiry into Garda evidence in the Jobstown case is debatable. What is not debatable is that the Garda should not be the ones inquiring into the force’s own behaviour. – Yours, etc,

JOHN F CRONIN,

Terenure, Dublin 6W.
