Sir, – Margaret Butler (October 9th) decries the absence of a workman with barrow, spade and brush to clear fallen leaves on her local footpaths and weeds on kerbsides. One solution, which works well in our area, with some exceptions, is householders taking personal responsibility for the above outside their own houses. In fairness to Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, it regularly uses mechanical road-sweepers to keep the roads and kerbsides in pristine condition. – Yours, etc,
