Sir, – News that the Drumcree Orange Order march has been banned for the 19th consecutive year, and that the Orangemen still conduct a regular protest at the ban, shows us the implacable nature of the men involved ("Drumcree parade blocked for 19th year", News, July 10th).
Reasonable people should take the hint that their march through a nationalist area is considered provocative, unnecessary and unhelpful.
Surely they should accept defeat on the issue, abandon the issue and move on with their lives?
It fascinates me that they can demonstrate such unwavering commitment to an unpopular and divisive cause.
If that unwavering commitment could be channelled into charitable works and good causes, these men could be such an amazing force for good in the community. – Yours, etc,
AOIFE LORD,
