Daily Covid death figures

Sir, – The death toll on our roads is 150 per annum, approx; all accidents are reported immediately in the media and quite rightly so.

The present death toll from coronavirus – which we are now advised on a weekly basis – varies between 60 to 70.

This would equate to an annual number of 3,500 approx. We continue to get daily numbers for deaths in Northern Ireland but not for the South.

Is this a policy decision by the HSE or the Government? Who made it? It appears that the decision is to play down the number of deaths due to the virus.

If the people who make these decisions thought about the matter more clearly, they would surely realise that daily death figures would strike home to all how serious this matter still is, and make people more conscious of the situation and abide by the advice given.
