Sir, – Could I wish the cyclist who almost knocked me down on the pedestrianised Paul Street in Cork on Monday last a safe and happy 2017?
His hi-vis jacket did not prepare me for his zipping down what is, effectively, a footpath.
His informing me that I was an “asshole” for being in his way made my day more pleasant and increased my approval of the ever-increasing practice of cycling on footpaths. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Fellow cyclists, please stop cycling on the footpaths. You are giving the rest of us a bad name. Either put on your “big boy pants” and cycle on the “big scary road” with normal traffic or stop cycling altogether. – Yours, etc,
