Sir, – As if Roger Casement wasn’t subjected to enough persecution when he was alive, it now appears that the seagulls around Dún Laoghaire are insisting on leaving their mark on the statue erected in his memory on the jetty at Dún Laoghaire Baths. Should the local council not put their powerhoses to good use soon, the 3m-high bronze sculpture may well be white from head to toe in time for Christmas.
– Yours, etc,
MICHAEL CULLEN,
Sandycove,
