Sir, – Further to recent correspondence (March 25th), I am reminded of my very first car, an Austin mini, purchased second-hand back in the late 1960s. I drove it (somewhat) happily for all of two years, and other than replacing the battery, clutch, starting motor, and entire exhaust system, it gave me little trouble. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I had a Datsun Bluebird. Like the Sash, it was old but it was beautiful. When it finally developed the rust that never sleeps my late friend, Alec, suggested a remedy and attached a thin lath of wood to the lip of the threatened boot lid. Years later when I sadly parted with it, it was the only Bluebird in Ireland with woodworm. – Yours, etc,
