Sir, – Insurance companies increase the premium at will and then reduce the cover by increasing the excess. The excess is the amount that the insured have to pay themselves before the insurance policy applies.
I recently renewed my comprehensive car insurance and the renewal cost did increase from last year but the hidden costs have also increased dramatically. The “loss or damage to your car” which was an excess of €250 is now €400. For named drivers, the excess was €450 is now €650. You may have your excess of €400 reduced to €300 but at an extra cost of €56 which is a sneaky was of increasing your premium. Windscreen replacement used to be free but now carries an excess of €25. This also applies to any other glass replacement even though the policy states that glass breakage is fully covered.
Is there no watchdog or regulator for the motor car insurance companies?
The maximum car-hire benefit in the event of your car being written off was 21 days but is now reduced to 14 days. There is no way you can get a replacement new car in 14 days.

They have increased the cost of insurance and at the same time reduced the cover and increased the cost to the insured in the event of an accident. – Yours, etc,
