Man dies in Monasterevin collision

One person has died following a serious collision on the M7 near Monasterevin in Co Kildare.

One person has died following a serious collision on the M7 near Monasterevin in Co Kildare.

It is understood the collision involving a truck and a car occured on the northbound lane of the M7 between the New Inn interchange and the Monasterevin Interchange shortly before 2pm this afternoon.

A man, thought to be in his 60's, was fatally injured when the car he was driving collided with the truck.  He was removed to Portlaoise Midland Regional Hospital.

Another occupant of the car has been taken to Naas General Hospital where her condition is described as critical. The driver of the truck was uninjured.

Diversions are in place and gardaí are directing traffic from the New Inn interchange onto the old road through Ballybrittas to Monasterevin and back onto the motorway.
