Deli choc-a-bloc: Promising to sell the best of everything, Fallon and Byrne recently opened its cool-looking foodhall on Dublin's Wicklow Street.
While delis such as Magills and Avoca have been selling tasty morsels in the city for years, the new outlet is substantially bigger than either and offers a wide array of very good quality vegetables, meat and fish plus some of the most amazing chilli-flavoured dark chocolate PriceWatch ever tasted.
Ironing out
The ironing age might be coming to an end with the summer launch of a washing machine that claims it will do the job for you. The steam washing machine from LG Electronics blasts clothes with damp air for 20 minutes at the end of the cycle, removing creases and eliminating the need for tiresome ironing. The manufacturer says the machine, which will sell for approximately €1,200, "brings dry cleaning to your home".
Straight to DVD
The price of DVD rental in Dublin has grown a little more competitive since the introduction of an Original-Video machine in the SuperValu outlet on Aston Quay earlier this month. Renting one of 2,000 DVDs available for a 12-hour period costs just €1.50. Keeping it for up to 24 hours costs €3. Interestingly, fines for late return are levied at an hourly rather than a daily rate - 20 cent for every hour you are late in dropping the film back.
