This morning’s roof-top protest at Clover Hill jail in Clondalkin has ended without incident.

The three prisoners were persuaded to come down off the roof by prison staff at around 10:30 am this morning.

They are believed to have escaped using part of a hacksaw-blade a spokesperson for the prison service told ireland.com.

The prisoners were protesting against the use of glass screens separating them from visitors. Staff said no concessions were made.

In Cork, a prison protest was brought under control last night after 100 prisoners staged a sitdown protest yesterday afternoon.

The prisoners issued a list of demands including contact visits with family members and the removal of an anti-drugs net from over the prison yard.

Prison officers in riot gear were brought in, and the protest ended. There were no injuries.
