Software giant’s Galway unit also reports big surge in turnover for last year

An Irish subsidiary of Europe's largest software company SAP reported a huge rise in revenues and profits last year, newly-filed accounts show.

Pretax profits jumped 64 per cent to €12.8 million from €7.8 million at Galway-based SAP Service and Support Centre (Ireland) Limited in the 12 months to the end of December 2017.

The surge in profits came as turnover climbed 19 per cent from €128.3 million to €152.9 million and as cost of sales rose to €114.6 million from €97.9 million.

The unit recorded staff costs of €99.6 million as against €82.5 million a year earlier.

SAP is the largest software company in Europe, with more than 335,000 customers in more than 180 countries. The German-headquartered company recorded revenues of €23.5 billion last year. Founded in 1972, it employs over 88,000 people, including 1,880 in Ireland.

The company’s staff in Dublin and Galway work across 40 lines of business – from research and development to sales and customer support. It employs staff from about 60 countries, who between them speak 47 languages.
