Vodafone grows fixed customer base by 9% to 275,000

Communications group completes €2.5 million investment in stores nationwide

Vodafone Ireland added 8,000 fixed customers during the quarter ended December 31st 2014, bringing the total number of fixed customers to 275,500.

This represents a 3.1 per cent increase in Vodafone’s fixed customer base in the last quarter and a 9 per cent increase year-on-year.

In an interim management statement, the communications group said it now has an overall Irish customer base of 2.3 million, of which 2.1 million are mobile customers.

Vodafone said it has completed a €2.5 million investment in its stores nationwide to improve customers’ experience.

It said progress is "well underway" on the €450 million joint venture with ESB to deliver a fibre-to-the-building broadband network offering speeds up to 1,000 Mbps.

During the quarter, the joint venture company was formally established with European Commission approval. Technical trials to approximately 300 homes in Cavan were completed achieving speeds of 940Mbps during both upload and download.

Chief executive Anne O’Leary said the growth of the Vodafone’s enterprise business has been encouraging with significant new business wins over the quarter.

“Investments in our mobile network, our joint venture with ESB and advances in our 4G and 4G+ footprint are enhancing our total fixed and mobile communications offering,” she added.
