Eircom hits customers with price hike of up to €100

Average increase will be just under €60 a year

Eircom is to hit customers with price increase of as much as €100 a year from the middle of April.

The average increase will be just under €60 a year although some customers will be hit with hikes of close to €100.

"This is the first time in four years that we have announced a price change that impacts the majority of our customers," said the managing director of its consumer division Jon Florsheim. "We are doing more than any other operator in the market to invest in infrastructure, to provide new and innovative services and to offer real value to our customers," he claimed.

For business customers, the monthly increase will be between €3 and €10.

The eircom move comes after UPC rolled out price increases of more than 10 per cent earlier this month.

For the third time in just two years the company imposed price increases of up to 12 per cent and its customers will see the cost of their broadband, television and phone services jump by almost €100 over the next 12 months.

The other main player in the market Sky has added €12 on to the annual cost of its most basic TV package while its Unlimited fibre broadband offering will now cost €50 a month compared to €40 for its DSL broadband product.
