News: The Paddy Power firm have been hit for almost €425,000, the biggest payout in the history of the company, by a woman who had just a €10 bet.

Catherine Egan from Co Westmeath isn't even a regular punter but her €10 accumalator on the seven races at Fairyhouse on Sunday hit the jackpot and left Paddy Power reeling.

"She told me today that she only ever bets on the Grand National, Cheltenham and the Galway races," said the firm's PRO, Paddy Power, yesterday before adding: "And obviously Fairyhouse on the odd Sunday!"

After Cane Break, Inexorable and Florida Pearl won the first three races, Mrs Egan's luck was really in when it came to the fourth leg of the bet as she had selected a horse who ended up a non-runner. When she rang up the betting shop she asked for the favourite instead and was told Munster who subsequently won. However, Munster was a 3 to 1 joint favourite and Paddy Power said yesterday: "If she'd nominated the favourite that part of the bet would have only paid half."

However, it all came down to the last race where her accumalted winnings up to then of €94,380 went on the Willie Mullins-trained Gayle Abated. In a tight finish, James Nash's mount won out and left Mrs Egan scooping €424,170.

Not a bad day's work!
