Hibernian boss Pat Fenlon believes goalline technology cannot come soon enough after his side were denied a goal in today's Edinburgh derby, which finished scoreless at Easter Road.

Hibs striker Leigh Griffiths fired a brilliant free-kick against the underside of the Hearts bar and the ball bounced down well over the line.

A goal was not awarded, though, and former Bohemians boss Fenlon claimed the disallowed goal was yet further evidence of the need for goalline technology and that the officials had to answer for their mistake.

“I am disappointed for the players,” he said. “It’s not even close to being on the line, it’s a yard over the line. It’s close to touching the back of the net.

“Maybe the officials should be out answering questions. I said (to the referee) that it was in. He said if he’s not sure he can’t give it.

“In general that’s the one area I would like to see change,” he added. “It’s vitally important to get it right.”

Griffiths was left to question the position of the assistant referee.

“I spoke to him (the referee) nicely,” the forward said. “I went over and asked if he had looked at (the assistant’s) position. He told me the linesman was standing in line with the last defender, but I looked over and saw he was standing on edge of the 18-yard-box.”
