Women's Hockey: Pembroke continued their good start to the season with a 3-0 win over the UCD students, Wendy Hobson, Dawn Kelly and Louise Henderson hitting a goal apiece in a one-sided match.

UCD's student colleagues from a few miles away in Trinity were in even greater trouble in the early weeks of this new season.

Although Loreto have been a little weakened by summer departures, with Linda O'Neill and her sister Jenny back in Bray and Ireland international Nikki Symmons in Germany playing professionally, they managed to hit eight goals.

International striker Cathy McKean managed to bag four goals in the rout, Wendy Byrne and Catriona Tipping also contributing.

Also in prolific scoring form, Old Alexandra kept their challenge rolling and added a win to their opening two draws.

Old Alex, who will compete in Madrid for European honours next year, grabbed five goals against Corinthians.

While Cathy Johnston, once part of the great Muckross side of some years ago, struck for Corinthians, Jeamie Deacon hit a hat-trick, one from the penalty spot, with Barbara Fitzgerald and Lucy Cotter adding one each in the 5-1 win.

At the other end of the league table, where it seems Clontarf may find themselves this season, the north Dublin team conceded four goals to Railway Union and could find none in reply.

Cathy Kenefick hit two along with Jean McDonnell.

But all was well in Hermes, where a goal in each half from Jenny Burke and Linda Caulfield saw them carve out a 2-1 win over Three Rock Rovers. Laura Ryan hit the net for Rovers.
