Midweek wins for leading duo UCD and Loreto means the rest of Division One are playing catch-up tomorrow.
UCD struck a giant 13 against Trinity on Monday night to complete their fourth win from four with Nikki Evans and Anna O'Flanagan – both playing their first games this season after study leave – grabbing four a piece.
It served as a statement of intent ahead of the intervarsities which gets underway on Sunday in Grange Road.
It was tougher for Loreto on Wednesday night but, despite Alison Bell's best efforts in goal for North Kildare, they still ran up a 3-0 win in Beaufort. It leaves them on 12 and 10 points respectively with Railway Union the only side in position to draw level with the latter tally of the six teams in action on Saturday.
Fledgling Old Alex
They meet a fledgling Old Alex side that had half a dozen players involved in last weekend's underage interprovincial tournament. Whether they have the know-how just yet to tame the reigning national champions is their big task.
Alex will look to their experienced heads, the likes of sweeper Sarah Canning and Shirley McCay in midfield to guide their youngsters and make life difficult for their visitors.
