More athletes have had their medical data leaked by a group of Russian cyber terrorists calling themselves ‘the Fancy Bears’.

The latest batch – the largest so far – includes Swiss Olympic cycling champion Fabian Cancellara, American golfer Patrick Reed and US runner Galen Rupp, who took bronze in the marathon in Rio.

In this fifth tranche of data stolen from the World Anti-Doping Agency, the Fancy Bears list the therapeutic use exemptions (TUEs) granted to 41 athletes, from 13 different countries, that allowed them to take drugs that would normally be banned under Wada rules.

Cancellara, who won the time trial in Rio, was granted two TUEs for injections of anti-inflammatory drugs in 2011 and 2013; Reed, the world number eight, is on medication for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder; and Rupp has been given exemptions for medicine to treat his well-documented asthma.

Despite the Fancy Bears’ claims to the contrary, there is no suggestion that any of the athletes whose data has been stolen have broken any rules.
