GEORDAN MURPHY is undergoing a series of scans to ascertain the extent of the damage to his ankle sustained in the final minutes of Leicester’s victory over Northampton last weekend. He is definitely out of the Tigers’ Heineken Cup clash with the Scarlets on Saturday.

It was initially feared the 32- year-old had suffered a dislocated ankle but Tigers coach Richard Cockerill didn’t confirm that prognosis. “Geordan has hurt his ankle and is seeing a specialist. He will have the right scans and get the right opinion and we will know more then.

“He certainly won’t be fit for this weekend. It’s really disappointing for Geordy, he was just coming into some good form and, on the big days, you need the big players.”

Ireland coach Declan Kidney will be hoping the damage is not as severe as first suggested as he is already without the injured Rob Kearney for the start of the Six Nations.
