Michael Kinane will again team up with George Washington in the Breeders' Cup on Saturday week after Aidan O'Brien confirmed yesterday that the 2,000 Guineas winner will tackle America's top dirt horses in the Classic over 10 furlongs.

It will be a first attempt beyond a mile for George Washington, and a first time on dirt for the colt who will be retired to stud after Churchill Downs.

The Ballydoyle team have resisted the option of going with one of the top American jockeys on the dirt and instead Kinane will try and go one better than his agonisingly narrow defeat on Giant's Causeway in the Classic six years ago.

"He will definitely run in the Classic and Mick will ride," said O'Brien. "It opens up the world to the horse if he wins and he is in good form."

Kinane has ridden George Washington twice before including when running out an impressive winner of the QEII Stakes last month.

O'Brien added that he will pitch in Ivan Denisovich alongside Aussie Rules and Ad Valorem in the Mile at Churchill Downs while Scorpion will take his chance in the mile and a half turf.

Garret Gomez rode Aussie Rules to win the Grade One Shadwell Turf Mile at Keeneland earlier this month and keeps the ride leaving Kinane with the choice of Ad Valorem and Ivan Denisovich.

The former Irish champion jockey may not be on Scorpion, though, as Hurricane Run, also Coolmore-owned, could take his chance in the same race.

Kinane was out of luck in Canada on Sunday night when John Oxx's Kastoria managed only eighth to the English-trained Collier Hill who just edged the American horse Go Deputy in the Canadian International at Woodbine in Toronto.

Red Bloom, Kinane's other Grade One ride on the night, was out of the placings in the EP Taylor Stakes.
