Ireland’s top amateur golfers continued to mount an impressive challenge at the European Individual Strokeplay Championship at the Penati Golf Club in Slovakia following today’s second round.

Naas' Jack Hume is in a tie for second place, one shot behind leader England's Jamie Bower after following his opening seven-under 65 with a superb 67 for a 12 under par total.

Gary Hurley (West Waterford/Maynooth University) produced a flawless card with five birdies and an eagle to climb 14 places into a tie for sixth on 11 under after signing for a 65 to go with his opening 68.

Faithlegg's Robin Dawson, on 10 under, is a half a dozen places behind his fellow Waterford man despite adding a fine 69 to his first round 65, while Gavin Moynihan (The Island) made significant progress, matching Hurley's 65 and is just outside the top 20 on nine under par.
