Cork's senior hurling coach Kieran Kingston has stepped down from his role alongside manager Jimmy Barry-Murphy.

Kingston has cited work commitments as the reason for his departure but has not ruled out working with the team in the future.

“It is with deep regret that I have had to take this decision, but with work commitments that will take me out of the country extensively over the next eight to ten months, I wouldn’t be able to commit to Cork,” he said this morning.

“I’d like to thank Jimmy Barry-Murphy, the management team, all the players and the county board.

“I’ve had a fantastic three years and it has been an honour to work with this team, and while I’m not going forward this year, I would hope to work with Cork teams again in the future should the opportunity arise.”

Barry-Murphy added: “I would like to thank Kieran for his outstanding contribution over the past three years, both as coach and selector. He was instrumental in Cork’s Munster final victory last year, and I hope to see him back working with Cork again in the future.”

The manager will “confirm his full backroom team in due course”, according to Cork GAA.
