Officials at Punchestown will be anxiously checking the course this morning to see if it gets the green light to host a New Year's Eve card tomorrow.

The track was described as being "perfectly raceable" yesterday but an ominous overnight weather forecast is causing concern.

"We had 11mms of rain on Thursday night and while the ground is heavy, it is perfectly raceable at the moment," said Punchestown manager Richie Galway yesterday. "But the forecast overnight is unsettled. We will look at it again in the morning to see if we need to inspect. If it doesn't get too bad during the night, I think we should be okay."

Tramore is gearing up to race on Sunday and Monday and although conditions might not be pleasant for racegoers, no problems are expected.

"There is wind and rain forecast and while we've had problems from high winds in the past, that shouldn't be the case this time. The ground will be heavy and it will be real National Hunt conditions," said Tramore manager Sue Phelan.

Fairyhouse are due to race on New Year's Day and the authorities there are prepared to switch the action from the inside track to the main course if conditions get too heavy.

"To make sure we race, we are prepared to switch courses. The ground is heavy and the only slight concern is that a storm is forecast for Sunday," said Fairyhouse manager Niall Mackey. "But that seems to be aiming more for the north of the country."
