Under-21 international Brian Shelley joined long-time Roddy Collins target Trevor Molloy in Carlisle on Saturday according to the former Bohemians manager where the pair watched his current club beat Leyton Orient before discussing a Bosman move to Brunton Park.

"I have Shelley and Molloy here today," said Collins after Saturday's game, "and they're both quality players available on Bosman rulings.

" Although they won't be available until next season I hope to have them signed by the end of the day."

Neither player had yet signed and Molloy said last night that the pair were merely "keeping their options open".

But current Bohemians manager Stephen Kenny admitted to being surprised by the news that they had been at the game and went on to say that he could not comment on whether the pair were about to join his predecessor in England.

"I'd be surprised if they did anything firm without talking to us first and I'm supposed to talk to their agent next Thursday so we'll just have to wait and see what happens," he said.

Waterford United, meanwhile, have appointed one of their former greats, Jimmy McGeough, as the club's new manager. He will be formally unveiled at a press conference tomorrow.

McGeough, who had a five-year spell with Sheffield Wednesday for whom he scored 71 goals, was a prominent member of the Waterford side that enjoyed outstanding success at the end of the 60s and start of the 70s.

Subsequently he went back to England before moving on to the US where he has held a variety of football management jobs.

McGeough described his new appointment as "a challenge" while the club's chairman, Ger O'Brien, said that it is a "great opportunity to finally gt the past and present united". Brendan Rea, who along with Paul Scully took charge of the team since the departure of Paul Power, will be a part of McGeough's new management team
