Just over half of the players who secured Cameroon's third victory in the African Nations Cup two years ago in Nigeria have been included by manager Winfired Schaffer for this year's event in Mali.
Omitted from the squad, which includes a good many of the younger Olympic title-winning side too, are experienced players like Pierre Njanka and Joseph-Desire Job. But there are plenty of familiar faces in the 22-man panel, including skipper Rigobert Song of Cologne, Real Madrid's Geremi and Lyon's Marc-Vivien Foe.
While none are based in Africa, three play their club football in England: Arsenal's Laurent, Sheffield United striker Patrick Suffo and Lucien Mettomo of Manchester City.
The rest of the squad are drawn from European clubs, with the leagues of France, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Turkey all represented.
Cameroon start next week's tournament as one of the favourites, and their chances have been boosted by a dispute within the Nigerian camp over the payment of wages to members of the coaching staff that led this week to the cancellation of the country's friendly game in Egypt.
Cameroon's preparations, though, continue to go well, and yesterday the team beat Tunisia 1-0 in a scrappy game. Suffo scored the goal four minutes before half-time after some good work by Patrick Mboma.
