Erin McGreehan was first elected to Louth County Council in 2019, before being nominated to the 26th Seanad in June 2020.
She studied for a bachelor’s degree in public and social policy and a masters in European economics and public affairs.
Since the last election, the Fianna Fáil party had no representative in Co Louth for the first time in its history. When McGreehan was selected to contest the general election, fellow party TD for Cavan, Brendan Smith, emphasised the need to regain a seat in the constituency and said he was confident she could redress the balance.
Her priorities include highlighting inequalities for minorities and people with disabilities.
She hopes to “work to help mitigate the costs of Brexit” and strengthen towns and villages to make them “more sustainable, attractive and safer”.
She grew up on a small farm, and has said the rural way of life is “an important cultural part of this country and needs to be protected”.
