Máire Devine (60) has become a first-time TD for Sinn Féin in Dublin South Central.
Originally from the Liberties, Ms Devine was co-opted to Dublin City Council representing the south west inner city to replace Críona Ní Dhálaigh in 2020.
She was re-elected to the local authority in June and was also a member of South Dublin County Council in earlier years.
She is a senior psychiatric nurse and a member of St James’ Hospital Board and the Children’s Hospital Residents Forum
Ms Devine stood unsuccessfully for the constituency in 2016 but was later elected to the Seanad, but lost that seat four years later.
The party decided to take Ms Devine off the Dublin South Central ticket in the 2020 general election to shore up Aengus Ó Snodaigh’s seat. Mr Ó Snodaigh ended up romping home with a massive 17,015 first preferences, some 39 per cent of the vote.
Ms Devine, who now lives in Kilmainham, is married and has three children.
