The addition of a fourth seat to Dublin Rathdown meant Fianna Fáil had a chance to take its first seat since the constituency’s establishment.

That would be through the form of long-time councillor Shay Brennan, the son of former Fianna Fáil TD and minister Séamus Brennan.

He failed to win a seat for Fianna Fáil in 2020, though he came fourth at the time, meaning the door was open for the party to take its first seat in Dublin Rathdown since the constituency was created in 2016.

The 50-year-old was first elected a Dún Laoghaire Rathdown councillor in 2014.
