Mother-of-one Verona Murphy (53), was the president of the Irish Road Haulage Association between 2015 and 2020.
Her career in politics began under the banner of Fine Gael. She was selected by the party to contest the 2019 byelection for the Dáil seat vacated by Mick Wallace. She finished third in the byelection, behind George Lawlor and the winner Malcolm Byrne.
She was struck from the Fine Gael party after making controversial comments about asylum seekers, but went on to run as an Independent in the 2020 general election and was elected to the third of five Wexford seats.
She is popular for being outspoken and a good communicator, who attends numerous events across Wexford.
