Zelenskiy’s speech to the Oireachtas

Sir, – Considering the shameful failure of the PBP TDs to clap after President Zelenskiy’s address, I take it that the letters PBP mean Putin Before Principles. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Some left-wing Irish TDs decided not to applaud the elected president of a democracy currently at war with a recidivist tyrannical neighbour. President Zelenskiy put his own life at risk by remaining in one location for the duration of the Irish response. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – The address to the joint sitting of the Dáil and the Seanad by the Ukrainian president was besmirched by the position adopted by Paul Murphy, Bríd Smith, Richard Boyd Barrett and Gino Kenny in their refusal to applaud. They advanced their own reasons, but the simple truth is they are out of step but simply oblivious to it. Not for the first time the Irish left has shamed itself when events involving Russia are on the table. I suggest that at the next election the voters in their constituencies reflect on this before casting their vote. – Yours, etc,
