Sir, – It is disconcerting to see our Government, led by the party of fiscal rectitude, make a mess of our hard-earned economic recovery. Every windfall to the exchequer, however unsustainable, is blown on expenditures which will recur every year. We have learned nothing.
If the Government chooses to ignore its own Fiscal Advisory Council it is unlikely to pay much attention to Churchill: “In finance, everything that is agreeable is unsound and everything that is sound is disagreeable”.
It is past time for the Taoiseach and the Minister for Finance to show a bit of leadership. – Yours, etc,
PAT O’BRIEN,
