Sir, – There has been much discussion about appropriateness of a €150,000 grant to Wesley College, particularly in relation to its already significantly greater facilities than other less well-served schools. It seems unlikely that either the department or Minister for Sport Shane Ross will be forced to justify this award.
However, this does not mean that the award needs to remain as is. At a minimum, I hope that in the spirit of its ethos of providing opportunities “for discussion of moral and spiritual issues and values”, Wesley College can surely deliberate, taking into consideration all relevant information, whether or not acceptance of the award is appropriate. – Yours, etc,
JAMES QUINN,
