Sir, – To those claiming the underutilisation of Poolbeg will necessitate increased waste production or the importation of foreign waste, I would suggest the opposite is true.
In fact we’d do well to double our incineration capacity if only to accommodate the non-biodegradable waste that we currently export for this purpose, or that still goes to landfill.
Should the time come when our incineration capacity exceeds waste production, we could then use this as a opportunity to address a toxic legacy by exhuming the lingering waste from retired landfill sites and incinerating that instead. – Yours, etc,
